5 Money Making Apps That Reward You For Snapping Receipts

We all go shopping and then end up with receipts that we do not need and then throw them away, well how about getting rewarded for snapping your shopping receipts.

There are so many money making apps that will reward you for snapping your receipts.

How do they work?

To get started you’ll need a smartphone and preferably one that uses Android or iOS. The premise is simple.

You shop like normal and keep your receipt. Once you have your receipt you just take a picture of it with your smartphone camera and submit it on one of the apps. They will then give you a decision whether they accepted it or not. If they do they give you some points. These points you can then exchange for rewards.

Depending on the app they do not accept all store receipts. Some apps will only accept receipts from grocery stores while others will also accept receipts from food and drink outlets. It’s best to check with the specific app beforehand.

Most of these apps you don’t need any minimum purchases on receipts so even receipts with a low amount work. Make sure you the photos of the receipts aren’t blurry and you can see the information clearly and you should be good to go.

You might be asking how do these apps make money. They wouldn’t be giving rewards out for no reason, would they?

They make money by using the data from your receipts to create market research reports on consumer behaviour and purchasing habits.

So without further ado, here’s a roundup of some of the popular ones that we have found for you.

Shoppix

It is pretty simple to download. The Shoppix app is available from the App store and Google Play. It is simple to create an account, all you have to do is fill is some basic details. Once an account is created, all you need to do is snap your receipts and earn tokens. For every receipt you submit to them you earn 25 tokens. If you submit it the same day as you purchased you earn a bonus of 5 tokens, so 30 tokens in total. Although Shoppix do offer you surveys from time to time to earn extra tokens plus you can take part in the prize draws to win more.

This app is probably my favourite from this list and the one I use the most when snapping my receipts as the app itself is very easy to use and they pay out very quick.

You can exchange the tokens for rewards once you reach the limit needed. This is a fun way of collecting tokens and earning rewards. For Shoppix the minimum tokens you need to cash out is 3200 tokens and you can exchange them for iTunes vouchers, Love2Shop vouchers, Amazon vouchers or PayPal cash. Currently for 3200 tokens you can get a £5 voucher.

Storewards

This app is available on the App Store and Google Play. It is free to download and simple to use, you will collect coins for each valid receipt accepted, they only accept grocery receipts. You collect the coins and then are able to cash out via Paypal or Amazon vouchers.

With Storewards you can snap 5 receipts per day and a maximum of 20 per week. All stores must be based in the UK.

When you use Storewards, they reward you with coins for using the app every day with their daily rewards which can be up to 100 coins. Cashouts are a minimum of 20,000 coins. 20,000 coins can be exchanged for a £2 Amazon voucher.

As with Shoppix, there are a number of ways to earn coins on Storewards so the coins build up quicker than you think!

HuYu

HuYu is an app owned by Dunhumby Limited which is a market research company based in the UK. HuYu works the same as the rest of the receipt scanning apps and has a very simple user experience so it is easy to get the gist of.

This app is free to download from the App store and Google Play. Create an account and upload your supermarket receipts to earn points. Then redeem your points for shopping vouchers. You can also send in your e-receipts which will earn you more points.

With HuYu earn points for snapping your receipts as well as completing surveys. But HuYu have another distinctive feature on their app called ‘Snapshot’.

Every few months HuYu will ask you if they can have access to your browsing history. If you give them permission you then need to download a program on your computer, after this program scans your browsing history, you can delete it. HuYu will then reward you 150 points for this. Taking part in this is completely optional.

The bad thing about HuYu is you can only scan grocery receipts from the major UK supermarkets like Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Lidl and Aldi. Unfortunately they don’t pay your rewards in cash either and you can only choose shopping vouchers.

Each snapped receipt is 5 points and the cashout is 500 points for a £5 voucher.

SnapMyEats

SnapMyEats is an app owned by The NPD Group which is an American based market research company.

SnapMyEats is great because you can earn points from all your food purchases. You can earn rewards by snapping pictures of your restaurant purchases. Whether it’s that latte from Starbucks or that Big Mac from Mcdonalds, you can snap the receipt and get points for it! You need to submit 25 valid receipts per month to earn £5 in reward credits.

When you do submit a receipt you have to answer a short survey about your purchase but this is about 4 or 5 questions and takes a few seconds. You can cash out once you have £10 and can swap your points for food and digital vouchers.
When submitting receipts to them you have to make sure they are within 7 days of the purchase date and have important details like the store name and what was purchased.

Zipzero

Zipzero is an app that is available on the App store and Google Play. Zipzero is different to the rest of the apps on this list in the sense that it offers a percentage reward.

A base reward of 0.5% of the value of any shopping receipt scanned into the app or any online purchases. You can get up to 10% of the value of eligible purchases. This app does not reward you with any vouchers rather it pays the amount that you earn directly to your household bills which include electricity, water, gas or council tax.

Unfortunately Zipzero doesn’t have the option to withdraw your rewards as cash either.

Although if you make a purchase for something through one of their approved partners you will get paid a slightly higher percentage. Zipzero call these premium offers. For example if you make a booking through booking.com might get 3% of the purchase price back.

Conclusion

We would say that if you have the time and you do not mind snapping your receipts and receiving rewards then you should go ahead and download these apps and start earning rewards.

None of these apps will make you a millionaire overnight nor will they pay of your mortgage. But what they will do is provide you with an extra income which you can use to treat the kids, put towards a holiday or anything else.

Snapping receipts may not be your most favourite thing to do on a Saturday afternoon but it doesn’t take long and it can be rewarding.

The great thing is you can use most of these apps in conjunction with each other so you can earn even more!
